Will economic development enhance the energy use efficiency and CO2 emission control efficiency?

چکیده
This study employs data envelopment analysis approach to construct the meta-frontier global technical efficiency of energy use index and global technical efficiency of CO2 emission control index to measure the energy use efficiency and CO2 emission control efficiency at country level. Destruction of these efficiency indices into pure technical efficiency and scale efficiency sub-indices is to capture sources of inefficiency in relation to the development of an economy. The results indicate that for developed countries the enhancement of the pure technical efficiency in the energy use and the scale efficiency of CO2 emission control are important tasks to pursue. On the contrary, developing countries have to seek the improvement of the pure technical efficiency of CO2 emission control and scale efficiency of energy use. 2011 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

In the past decade, fuel consumption and CO2 emission have increased in the airline industry. Large CO2 footprint has a damaging effect on the environment. Global concerns over this issue has made the airline industry to be greener. Most efforts of the green airline industry are improving the fuel consumption to reduce the CO2 emission and its environmental damage. Here, we use cruise speed con...
متن کاملWorldwide Development of Wind Energy and CO2 Emission Reduction
One of the most considerable issues in the global society is reducing CO2 emissions of industrial activities and its consequences. Therefore, exploitation of clean energy sources is one of the requirements of the international community. In this regard, the researchers investigated the impact of renewable energy utilization to achieve the low carbon economy and concluded that it can significant...
متن کاملAnalyzing the Relationship between CO2 Emission and Economic Efficiency by a Relaxed Two-Stage DEA Model
This article modifies the conventional two-stage DEA model to construct an analytical model for energy-related efficiency with undesirable outputs. Our proposed model relaxes the constraint that the inputs of the second process must come from the first process. As a result, our proposed model is more flexible than the original model in terms of the application of energy-related efficiency measu...
متن کاملCombating Climate Change: The Role of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency
Climate change and its possible impacts on the environment and socio-economic systems now constitute the most important environmental problem facing mankind in the 21st century. Climate change will increase poverty and hardship, endanger food security, destabilize economies, decrease food and water and create social insecurity in many countries and undermine our goals for achieving sustainable ...
متن کاملEconomic growth, Financial development and CO2 Emission: PSTR Approach
The aim of this paper is to assess the sign and magnitude of the nonlinear effects of main socio-economic variables as well as the financial development index(measured by private credit to GDP ratio) on the environmental pollution. Specifically, the interaction of the socio-economic variables with financial development as a threshold variable in affecting CO2 emission is studied. In this respec...
